The first incident in Rewa
Rewa social worker Shivanand Dwivedi says this is the first case of non-payment of wages in the area.
However, similar incidents have taken place in Madhya Pradesh in the past.
Last year, a laborer in Gana district was burnt alive with kerosene for allegedly defaulting on a loan of only Rs 5,000.
People from the local NGO called it a matter of bonded labor but the government called it a matter of borrowing.
