In Germany, after elections and the formation of a government, the government simply completes its term of office and usually no major decisions are made. This development, however, is unusual.
Following elections in Germany in September 2021, the government of the Christian Democrats and Social Democrats was overthrown and a new government was formed. The details of these military agreements came a day before Olaf Schulz took over as chancellor. Although the value of the agreements was not clear at the time.
According to details, the German government reached an agreement to supply arms to Egypt.
It is important to note that human rights groups have been violating arms sales to Egypt over the questionable role in the Yemeni and Libyan armed conflicts. Despite this, a total of 4.34 billion euros of arms were sold to Egypt this year.
The German ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems could supply Egypt with three MEKO A-200 EN-style warships. Dahl Defense has been allowed to sell 16 IRIS-T SLS / SLX missile defense systems to Egypt, while ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems will also supply 218 SG-type submarines to Singapore.
The deals were made under former Chancellor Angela Merkel. Incumbent Chancellor Olaf Schulz was then Vice-Chancellor. The lawmaker who raised the question of arms deals is Seymour Dagdlin. He expressed reservations about the deals.
