Islamabad (news world. DW news. October 29, 2022) Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar while inaugurating the two-day meeting of the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Committee (UNOCTC) in New Delhi on Saturday, October 29. Said that terrorism is still the most serious threat to humanity. And the international community has to unite and make sincere and serious efforts to end this scourge.

The Indian Foreign Minister said that his country will contribute five hundred thousand dollars to the United Nations Trust Fund for Counter-Terrorism to combat the threats of terrorism.

He said, "India will voluntarily contribute half a million dollars to UNOCT this year to strengthen capacity-building initiatives of member states to prevent and combat terrorism."

"

It should be noted that this is the first meeting of the United Nations Security Council Counter-Terrorism Committee (UNOCTC) in India in 2001. India holds the UNOCT presidency for the year 2022.

Misuse of Technology for Terrorism

Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar expressed concern over the misuse of technology. He said that availability at low cost and increased access to unknown aerial platforms has further increased the threat of terrorism.

He said that in recent days there have been several incidents of drug and weapons supply by terrorists with the help of drones and quadcopters on both sides of the international border.

Many countries agree on rules for the use and trade of drones

"The use of devices such as drones by terrorist groups and organized crime networks has further increased government concerns around the world," Jaishankar said.

What is the meeting agenda?

In this UNOCTC meeting, three main challenges will be discussed in particular.

These include the use of the Internet and social media in terrorist activities, the use of new payment technologies for fundraising and the use of UAVs such as drones.

Earlier on Friday, the participants of the meeting had an introductory meeting at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Mumbai, which was the target of the November 26, 2008 terrorist attacks.

US Secretary of State Antony Blanken raised the issue of adding the planners of the Mumbai terror attacks to the list of global terrorists.

Decision on Masood Azhar: Indian claim of diplomatic victory rejected

It should be noted that efforts to add five terrorists allegedly involved in the Mumbai terror incident to the UN's global terror list were blocked by China. Last month also, it failed the attempt to declare Sajid Mir as a global terrorist at the initiative of America and India.
