KYIV: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on Saturday said it was ridiculous Russia had accepted the alternating administration of the Unified Countries Security Committee, adding this showed the foundation's "all out insolvency".
On Saturday Russia assumed control over the administration of the U.N's. top security body, which pivots consistently. The last time Moscow held the post was in February 2022, when its soldiers sent off a full-scale intrusion of Ukraine.
"Tragically, we ... have some ridiculous and horrendous news," Zelenskiy said in a night video address, adding that Russian shelling had killed a five-month-old kid on Friday.
"What's more, simultaneously, Russia is leading the U.N. Security Committee. It's difficult to envision whatever demonstrates more the absolute liquidation of such foundations," he said.
The Kremlin said on Friday it wanted to "practice every one of its freedoms" in the job.
The US on Thursday asked Russia to "behave expertly" when it accepts the job, saying there were no means to impede Moscow from the post.
Zelenskiy said it was the ideal opportunity for a general update of worldwide foundations, including the Security Chamber.
"Change is important to forestall a fear based oppressor state - and whatever other express that needs to be a psychological militant - from obliterating the harmony," he said.
Prior, Zelenskiy counsel Andriy Yermak additionally hit out at Iran, which Kyiv and its partners blame for providing Russia with arms. Tehran denies it is giving weapons to Russia.
